“Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow”
~ Robert Kiyosaki

This means that whatever you do today, will created what will happen in the future. For example, if you take the correct and proper notes in class you will be able to study them at home and tomorrow you will understand the lesson and not fall behind in the lecture.

NEVER
“There is no justification ever for choosing any part of what you know to be evil.”
~ Ayn Rand

I think this quote means that no matter what you did and you knew it was wrong it will never be considered a “right” thing to do. This is why you should always choose the right so that you wont feel bad or guilty about anything.

Reading 5 Tips for Success Tip 5 Tip 5 : Keep a List of Questions

When you feel confused about something you’re reading, write down any questions you have. Sometimes your questions are answered as you read further. If not, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember, teachers create assignment; they’ve read the text and are familiar with them. When you have a specific question, your teacher can provide answers that will help you better understand the material. Learning is rooted in questions developed and asked by the learner.
Asking questions to yourself, to the teacher, and to other, is a great learning method. When you cease to ask questions, you cease to exist to a great extent. Read actively by silently asking questions as you read. Questioning immerses you into the material you’re reading and therefore will expand your mental capacities more than almost anything else.

The philosopher Sir Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power.”
Improving your reading comprehension is the key to gaining important knowledge and making the most of your education. So pick up a book . . . and pen.

“ When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece. This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each & every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day."
~ John Wooden

Reading 5 tips for Success Tips 3-4

Tip 3” Do research
Literacy critics have written vast numbers of analytically & critical pieces on countless books. If you’re having trouble understanding a particular text, do some research & see what knowledgeable sources have to say about it. In addition to increasing your comprehension, you’ll also be showing initiative, something teachers always like to see. Always use legitimate & scholarly sources, not condensed study guides. Going the extra mile in your research elevate your achievement 10- fold.

Tip 4: Use a Dictionary
Make sure you have access to a dictionary when you’re reading. You can often figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar word by using context clues, but sometimes you can’t. Rather than simply skipping over the words you don’t know, take the time to look them up. The results are well worth the effort. Your comprehension will increase greatly, and you’ll build your vocabulary at the same time.

The Three Don’ts
v Don’t whine
v Don’t complain
v Don’t make excuses

~ John Wooden
You should never whine, complain, or make excuses. You have the responsibility to tell the truth and not make up excuses. For example, lets say there was a science project due on Friday and you have an entire week to work on and you don’t get anything dont because you are fooling around. And on Friday you tell your teacher you weren’t able to do it. So you start to complain, whine, and even make excuses. This is why you should always choose the right.

5 Tips for Staying Motivated Tips 3-5

3. Set Attainable Goals
If you’re having trouble writing a 25-page paper for class because it seems like such a big job, don’t focus on that final number. Break the paper the paper and consider each section of your paper individually. You can handle any project in a small chunk.
4. Find a Social Support Network
Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you with planning your courses and starting to explore colleges. You can also reach out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing ideas.
5. Acknowledge Your Accomplishments
Give yourself a quick reward when you complete an assignment or task. Take a walk, send an email, get a snack. Then move on the next project.

“The Three Nevers”
Never Lie
Never Cheat
Never Steal

5 Tips for Staying Motivated Tips 1-2

To succeed in hs and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are 5 ways to stay on the right track.

1.     Focus on High-Impact Activities
The key to success ins school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignment first, those that take more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.
To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy to those that have the greatest impact on your course work and grades. For examples, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.

2.       Creating new Challenges
Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you’ve been given an assignment similar to one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports, pick a history book instead of another biography.

When the right time to do what is right? When do we stop? What time do we choose the right? Always—the answer is always. You will never have enough time to do what is right. Always question what you are doing. Because sometimes it is wrong what you are doing without even noticing it. That is why you should always be careful and do what is right.  For example, if there is a test coming up in a week, do you wait to study the night before or do you study for the whole week? Well you have to do what is right and study for as much time you have. The more you study the better you will do in your test.

You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, & you enjoy in the midst of your trails the pleasure of an approving conscience.”
~ Robert E. Lee

“ I think it better to do right, even if we suffer in so doing, than to incur the reproach of our consciences & posterity.”

What I understand from this quote is that it is saying that at times we should do what is right even if there will be consequences that we might not like or that are bad. Suppose you must save someone from a fire, should you do it? Yes, you should because you were choosing the right. But there could be some consequences like injuring yourself. But if you have to chance  to save someone , why not do it.

Note-Taking Strategies Part 4

For Review
Once you've done all of the above, you’ll find you've created your own personalized study guide. Cover the main section of the page & use the key words & questions in the left margin as a quiz.
Stick to It

Review your notes the day them & all your notes once a week. That way, you need to study as much when its test time. You’ve been doing the work all along. Try out the Cornell  system, but if it doesn’t work for you, experiment w/ other methods. Ask you classmates how they tak notes or ask a teacher for advice. Taking good notes requires practice, like any other skill. And the more you work at it now, the more prepared you’ll  be to take notes in college.

Summary on Tony Farmer

Tony Farmer has just been given 3 years to prison. He was one of the most highly-recruited high school basketball players in Ohio. He was sent to prison for kidnapping for his girlfriend. Its crazy how just by doing something very dumb and ignorant can lead you to very bad consequences in seconds. This is why you have to always choose the right.

Note-Taking Strategies Part 3

As soon as class ends, review your notes and fill in any blanks.

“He listens well who takes note.”
~ Dante Alighieri

I think this quote means that when you are paying attention to someone the speaker notices. Because you could see in your eyes how you are interested. For example if you are in class and the teacher is talking about a lesson and you are looking at something else to talking the teacher can tell right away.

Note-Taking Strategies Part 2

During class
One approach that has been proven effective is called the Cornell note-taking system. Here are some of its methods. Start by using the main section of your page to take down your notes during class. Be sure to leave space on the left side of the page and the bottom. Things to keep in mind:
1.   Get the speakers main points. Don’t write down every word you hear.
2.   Leave blanks in your notes to add explanations later.
3.   Organize as you write. Pay attention to cures such as repetition and emphasis
4. Indicate main & supporting points as you go.
5. Jot down key vocabulary, important facts & formulas,
6. Ask questions. If you’re confused, its better to ask while the material is fresh in your mind.

“Tell me what is right and I will fight for it.”
~ Woodrow Wilson
Is it ok to fight? Well it depends in some cases. Like for example, you don’t have to fight physically but by speaking. If you think something is wrong you should stand up for what you do think is right and speak out loud. But in physical cases there does come point where you shouldn't let yourself and fight back.

Distance Education: is a virtual class room for you? Part 4

Most of the communication, as well as the course work, in distance-learning classes are written. That’s a plus, because the focus on the written word gives you the opportunity to develop as a writer—and strong writing skills are essential to academic success. However, if writing is a serious weakness for you, virtual learning may not be the best educational option until you improve your skills. Yes, most of best distance education is the written word; therefore, you need to be a good reader, love to read, and love writing also. Most of your assignments will be written and submitted to the instructor in the written format. Your penmanship needs to be excellent, spelling great, sentence structure above average, vocabulary extraordinary. You need to have online access with reliable equipment. If your Internet communications at home isn’t working, you can’t do online education from home and will need to go to someplace where you do have access to the Internet.

Decide Whether It's Right for You
Distance Education isn’t for everyone, but it might be for you. You really should talk to seek it out and give it a try. You never know until you try. You might even fall in love with distance education. While distance education may be perfect alternative for some students, it's not the right choice for everyone. So carefully consider your unique needs & interest & give distance education a try; then, decide if its right for you.

“You must live in the present to secure your future.”
~Reverend Robert Craig
I think this quote means that what you do in the present as in right now in this very moment will reflect on your future. For example if you are doing all your work in class you will pass and in the future you could get scholarships for receiving G.P.A.’s of 4.0. But if you are ditching and/or not doing work and failing your classes, your G.P.A. will be low. Therefore, you will probably not be accepted to the good colleges or universities.

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You? Part 3

Challenging Aspects of Distance Education

vLack of in-person interaction: Some educators argue that both teacher-student & student-student contact are essential to learning. In a distance-learning classroom, you may be able to participate in class discussions  in chat rooms, message boards or Web conferences – but its not the same as being with other students in a classroom.

v Different levels of quality: Many distance-education programs supply an excellent learning experience, but others may not. Researcher any program before signing on to make sure its rigorous enough. If you are choosing your own program, look into its accreditation before enrolling.

v The need to self-start: Distance education lets you make your own schedules. If you have a hard time getting motivated, this might not be the idea educational setting for you

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

We all have an inside and an outside. Everyone has an inside, but we can only see the outside, the physical. So when you have a statement like this, I believe it is trying to say that what is inside us, or within us, is more important than anything on the outside or around us. What lies within us is more powerful and stronger and smarter than what we think. What we feel and our thoughts and our feelings are nothing when compared to actions and actual doing. We can do and say things but what would really matter at the end is what we feel, what lies within us.

Distance Education: is a virtual classroom for you? Part 2

Positive Aspects of Distance education

  • § Independence and time management: Taking courses online lets you hone your ability to work on your own. You also gain experiences in managing your time efficiently.
  • § A flexible schedule: Schools can only provide a certain number of class periods in a single school day, and there may not be enough time for you to take everything you want. Because distance education lets you take classes outside regular school hours, it gives you the flexibility to explore all your areas of interest.
  • Advanced & specialized classes: Some schools can’t provide advanced or specialized. Distance education gives you the change to gain experience in areas that would otherwise remain out of reach.

Gold medalist Alex Schwazer

This Olympic winner for race walking was Alex Schwazer from Italy. The gold medalist and champion for race walking. But he was soon caught, the next day there was a banning on him for use of drugs. He held a long conference to explain the happening; he explained that he was happy for this. He was happy that he didn’t have that extra weight on his back—he was relieved, because the news was finally out there and he could not take it anymore. What was really going through Alex’s mind? Guilt, pure guilt and he was ashamed of it, and that is what choosing the wrong can lead to, it will all catch up to you eventually. And it did, sadly Alex was kicked out of the London Games by a doping ban. He might have won, but at the end you are a loser, because you cheated and lied and chose the wrong.

Distance Education: Is a virtual classroom for you ? part 1

You may want to take a class that your high school doesn't offer. Under some circumstances, you can still enroll in the class – through distance learning.
Distance education means taking a class without being physically present where it is being taught. Internet-based technology lets students participate in lectures and class sessions online from almost anywhere.
Some high schools agree to recognize distance-learning credits when they don’t have the rescourses to offer a course themselves. Distance education is often used to increase options in rural areas and for AP courses

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work Part 5

Additional Tips

Although working and going to school is challenging, it can be a rewarding experience if you use some foresight. These tips can help you handle the situation and make the most of your time:
v  Discuss your plans with your family. Balancing the demands of school and work is easier with their support.
v  Start slowly; don’t commit to working a lot of hours immediately.
v  Avoid time conflicts by planning your class and work schedules as far ahead of time as possible.
v  Use your time efficiently.  You use 10 minutes waiting in a line to go over a few pages of assigned reading. If your job has a lot of down time and your boss has no objection, you can use slow periods to do schoolwork.
v    If you commute to your job on public transportation, bring your schoolwork with you so you can work along the way.
v  Be flexible & willing to make sacrifices. You may have to cut down on some other things you’d like to do because of your school & work commitments.
v  If you have too much on your plate, admit it. Then cut back as needed.
v  Schedule relaxation. Everyone needs some down time to stay happy and healthy.

Spring Break

On spring break I
didn't do many things. On Saturday I went to a 15 party. It was really fun I enjoyed it very much. One thing I love about vacation and not going to school is sleeping in. I got to wake up late and not early which is a very good thing. I also went to the mall with my friend Itzel. We went to Montebello Mall and bought clothes. I also went to Starbucks like almost every day. On Thursday I went to Six Flags Magic Mountain with 5 other friends. That was really fun , I bought the season pass , so now I could go whenever I want. I do wish our break was longer. One thing i hated about spring break was that we had homework.

Marion Jones Olympic Cheater

Marion Jones Olympic Cheater

Marion Jones is widely known for her great achievements for being ‘queen of track’ she was one of the best, with her gold medals. She was on top, on top of the world and wanted to go higher. Instead, she was caught, for her wrong doings! She cheated and lied to agencies, she lied her way into success—that is choosing the wrong. That is what ctw can lead to, Marion Jones, looks can be deceiving. Now choosing the right comes with its consequences, and so Miss Jones ended up serving a 6 month sentence for use of her steroids, and she was also striped of her medals. What a great example Marion brings to all, because no matter if it is big or small, wrong is wrong. You can be on top of the world, but you will eventually get caught and your wrongs will catch up to you. No matter what the truth always gets revealed sooner or later. So you should always choose the right even if you win or lose. Being caught as a cheater is really disappointing and humiliating.

Balancing High School and Part-time Work Part 4

He reminds students that “the activities and courses students choose vary considerably, so it’s important for young people to keep their individual situations clearly in mind.” MacGowan continues, “For example, student actors should allow for the fact that they won’t have as much time during performance seasons. Student athletes need to remember the times of the year that they’ll be tied up with games & practices. Other students who are in classes that make considerable demands outside of the classroom must keep that reality in mind.”
